William Fisher Hunter Carson, OBE was born in Stirling, Scotland, on November 16, 1942. At Captain Gerald Armstrong’s stables in Tupgill, North Yorkshire, he was apprenticed.

Willie Carson has the distinction for being the fourth most successful jockey in the United Kingdom, having passed 100 winners 23 times in a season for a total of 3,828 victories. Five times he was British Champion Jockey (1972, 1973, 1978, 1980 and 1983). Willie was a 17-time British Classic Race champion.

In 1983, Willie Carson was awarded the title of Officer of the Order of the British Empire for his contributions to horse racing. From 1982 to 1983, he was one of the squad leaders for A Question of Sport. Willie Carson co-hosted BBC horse racing on BBC1 with Clare Balding till the end of the 2012 season.

From 2001 to August 2007, Willie Carson was the chairman of Swindon Town FC. Willie Carson received an honorary doctorate from the University of Chester in November 2010. He came in fifth place in the eleventh series of ITV1’s reality show I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! in 2011.

From 1963 through 1979, Willie Carson was married to Carol Spares. Elaine Carson was his wife when he wedded her in 1982. Anthony Carson and Jackie Schollar are his children. What happened to Willie Carson the jockey
