Sale was born in Ithaca, New York, on May 1, 1956, but spent the majority of his childhood in Seattle, Washington.

He spent two years at the University of Washington before heading to New York City to study at the School of Visual Arts (SVA), a famed artist John Buscema’s comics school. Tim returned to Seattle before completing his studies at SVA.

He began sketching for the MythAdventures series in 1983. He was well-known for his work on Robert Lynn Asprin’s shared-world fantasy series Thieves’ World, which debuted in 1978.

Tim Sale is well recognized for his Batman: The Long Halloween and Superman comic books.

Tim Sale passed away on June 16, 2022, at the age of 66.
