If found guilty, the pop star will receive a term of 8 years in prison and most likely a fine of £19.2 million.

Despite having lived in Barcelona, Spain, with her ex-lover, Gerard Pique, since 2011, Shakira, who is best known for her 2001 hit song “Wherever, Whenever,” is accused of leading a fictitious life overseas in order to avoid paying taxes.

Pique, a Spanish football player, and Shakira’s relationship ended just one month prior due to claims of adultery.

In 2015, Shakira, who had previously been a tax resident in the Bahamas, changed her tax status to full resident in Spain.

She claims to have disbursed almost three million euros ($2.5 million).

After spending a lot of time checking the singer in, tax authorities determined that she had spent 242 days in Spain in 2012, 212 days in 2013, and 243 days in 2014.

The best-selling album with 80 million copies, however, has refuted the claims.

However, the singer is sure that she will succeed in court. Shakira Risks Eight Years Jail Term
