Laine Hardy Arrested: Laine Hardy, the winner of American Idol, was detained on Friday, April 29 after being accused of installing a listening device in his ex-college girlfriend’s dorm room, according to authorities.

According to Ernie Ballard, a spokesman for Louisiana State University, Hardy, 21, of Livingston, Louisiana, is charged with criminal interception and disclosure of wire, electronic, or oral communication.
He could face a fine of up to $10,000 and a jail sentence of two to ten years if proven guilty.
Hardy’s lawyer, C. Frank Holthaus, said in a statement to USA Today that his client “has been and will continue to be entirely cooperative with the Louisiana State University Police Department on this matter.”

A woman and her roommate discovered a recording device inside their dorm room on April 6, according to the arrest warrant. The next day, they informed LSU police of their discovery.
