Jigoro Kano was a Japanese sports advocate and educator who is known worldwide for founding Judo Sports. Kano Jigoro, born on October 28, 1860, and passed away on May 4, 1938. Kano’s birthday is celebrated as World Judo Day.

Kano Jigoro enrolled at the Tokyo Imperial University in 1877 and majored in political studies and economics. After graduating, Kano Jigoro served as a professor in various schools and was later appointed professor of economics at the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Tokyo.

Kano Jigoro served as director of primary education for the Ministry of Education for Japan from 1989 to 1901. Kano served as president of Higher Normal School from 1900 to 1829 and helped to make judo a basic sport in public school extra-curricular activities.

Kano Jigoro established a program that allowed Chinese students to study in Japan. Another great contribution of Kano to education is that he helped in the establishment of Nada Middle High School in 1928 in Kobe

Kano Jigoro was a pioneer in international sports who served as the first Asian member of the International Olympic Committee. Kano served as the spokesperson in Japan’s bid to host the 1940 Olympic Games. Moreover, Kano Jigoro was the founder of Judo and helped in the acceptance of Judo as an Olympic Sport.
