He has the most career victories among four-year college coaches who only coach at Missouri colleges and institutions.

Holley grew up in Jameson, Missouri, and graduated with a class of only ten people. He was a three-sport athlete at William Jewell before beginning his coaching career.

He won 918 games in that time, stopping at Central Methodist and Northwest Missouri State before a 40-year stint at William Jewell. The victories are tied for tenth all-time in collegiate basketball history, just ahead of Bob Huggins, Roy Williams, and Bob Knight.

Holley, who coached college basketball for 50 years, including 40 at William Jewell, died suddenly on Thursday. He was 76. To those who knew him, he leaves a legacy as one of the most successful coaches in men’s basketball history.
