Is Danny Elfman deaf: Because of his continual exposure to the extreme volume levels involved in performing in a rock band, Elfman had significant hearing impairment throughout his 18-year stint with Oingo Boingo. Fearing that his sickness would worsen, he decided to leave the band, claiming that he would never play at that level again.

Danny’s hearing loss was bad enough that he couldn’t “even sit in a loud restaurant or bar anymore,” as he put it. However, he discovered that performing in front of orchestras was more manageable, and he returned to repeat his live performance of Jack Skellington on several occasions.
