How Did Mark Shields Die: Mark Shields, a longtime PBS News commentator known for his weekly political analysis, died at the age of 85 on Saturday, June 18 morning.

Mark Shields died of kidney failure at his home in Chevy Chase, Maryland, according to NewsHour spokesperson Nick Massella.

“It breaks my heart to tell you this. Mark Shields, the @NewsHour’s beloved long-time Friday night analyst who stunned us for decades with his encyclopaedic knowledge of American politics, his sense of humour, and most importantly, his great heart, has gone away at the age of 85, with his wife Anne by his side,” Woodruff tweeted.

Mark Shields grew up in Weymouth, Massachusetts, and went to Notre Dame University. After graduating from college, Shield enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.

He worked on several local and presidential elections after that before joining PBS in 1988. Shields also contributed to CNN and ABC, among other news organizations, as a columnist.
