Eric Chappell Rising Damp Dead

Eric Chappell Rising Damp Dead: On Thursday, April 21, 2022, at the age of 88, Eric Chappell, the creator of some of ITV’s most successful sitcoms, including Rising Damp, Only When I Laugh, and Duty-Free, died. There was no mention of the reason of death.

Chappell’s death was announced by Reece Dinsdale, who co-starred with the late John Thaw in the sitcom Home to Roost. Dinsdale responded on Twitter, “Thank you for everything you did for me, Sir.” It was a lot of fun to act out your scripts. It was an incredible experience!”

Chappell was a prolific playwright and television writer, but his crowning work was Rising Damp, which author Mark Lewisohn of the Radio Times Guide to Comedy called “ITV’s finest ever sitcom.”

Eric Chappell lived a low-key personal life away from the spotlight in his latter years.

In a 2013 interview with Comedy, he said that he would read his plays to Muriel, who would “yawn as she read them.” According to a Penny Black Music interview, the comedian is survived by at least two children. He could have been married or not at the time of his death. Eric Chappell Rising Damp Dead
