Tanya gave birth to six children for Carl Swanigan, the father of Caleb, who at the time was a cocaine addict.

He frequently got into legal trouble and was violent at home, especially with Tanya.

After enduring diabetes-related problems, Carl later passed away in 2014. At the time of his passing, he was 6 feet 8 inches tall (2.03 m) and around 500 pounds (230 kg).

Later, Tanya moved to Salt Lake City with her kids and split her time there between Indianapolis and Utah. Later, she made her son Caleb available for adoption to Roosevelt Barnes, an AAU coach.
